Tameside Hospital – Substation Upgrade

Tameside Hospital – Substation Upgrade

The Challenge

The Trust required a major upgrade to its primary substation infrastructure to improve resilience and support future demand across the hospital estate.

The works were undertaken within a fully operational hospital, requiring complex coordination with the Distribution Network Operator (DNO), controlled shutdowns, and the implementation of temporary power solutions to maintain critical services.

Project Goals

  • Upgrade incoming power infrastructure to improve resilience and capacity

  • Replace existing transformer with higher-capacity equipment

  • Maintain continuity of critical clinical services during works

  • Integrate upgraded systems with existing infrastructure and monitoring systems

The Result

Tameside Hospital – Substation Upgrade involves a significant enhancement to the hospital’s electrical infrastructure, including the installation of a new transformer and upgraded LV distribution systems.

Through careful planning and coordination, the works are being delivered with minimal disruption to hospital operations, providing improved resilience, enhanced monitoring capabilities, and long-term capacity to support future expansion.
